Bryan Elsley: We set out to do an adaptation. There will be a degree of resonance. There will be original episodes and some very original writing. The first episode has similarities but not all the way through.

Interviewer: Why not start from scratch?

Bryan Elsley: The reason for that is SKINS is actually written by young people. I have 18 and 19-year olds writing in England. In the UK, the first season was largely written by me. I need about two years to teach them writing. I want to do the same thing here. If the show is successful and goes to season 2, you’ll see original writing. I think having the same names doesn’t mean they’ll be the same characters. We have a large teen advisory group in NYC making changes to the show.

Interviewer: What stories will be in the first series?

Bryan Elsley: They will be in the first series, but I can’t give an example.

Eleanor Zich (Eura Snyder): I’m 14. People around that age start to break away from their parents.
